I have read reports that Cleveland Cavalier point guard Kyrie Irving might not play until January. The reason for this is because the organization wants to slowly bring him back from his most recent injury.Irving fractured his kneecap in the NBA Finals, Irving had surgery and the initial timetable for his return was 3-4 months. However, Irving recently said he hasn’t put a date on when he wants to return. Cleveland wants to bring him back slowly to decrease the risk of him re-injuring the knee again.
While the Cavaliers added Mo Williams via free agency, Irving is a key piece for this team to compete for a title. How rusty Irving will be when he finally returns will depend on how much basketball-related activity he completes this fall and winter. In my opinion, I don’t think this is a promising sign for a 23-year old star. With all the injuries he has incurred in his young career, Irving might be the next Anfernee Hardaway, in terms of all the talent in the world, but the failure to stay healthy ends his career.
I hope that doesn’t happen.
I think Cleveland has a good chance to get back to the Finals, but if Irving isn’t fully healthy or near 100 percent, LeBron James and the Cavaliers won’t win a title.
